Baby, Baby, Baby

Happy Friday!

The other day I picked up the latest issue of House Beautiful and it's all about COLOR!

I haven't finished reading it yet, but I am loving it! It includes interviews with the designers and a color expert that tell the psychology behind the colors in the spaces. One of my favorite things to read is when articles pick the designer's brains and tell us readers how or why they made the choices they did. The insight into their thought process and decision making is so interesting to me and as a designer, opens my mind to options I may not have considered or thought of on my own.

Looking through the magazine made me want to get a jump start on baby girl's nursery. Now a little background on her nursery; she will be sharing a space with Carl and I, the "sitting area" in our master will be her nursery. This means her space needs to flow with our space, but I also want it to be her own at the same time.

{Love the bright colors, but this would not work with our room!}
I have already mentally designed the whole layout of the space and know the furniture we need to buy. I am going to keep it to a minimal, 1 because the space is pretty small, 2 because I remember with Cai we didn't spend much time in his room and I doubt we will with baby girl either.

{Now something completely opposite! I've been obsessed with the vintage/modern look and the gray would be perfect with our room. I would add some pink/purple or add some pretty floral patterns to make it more girly!}

The space will consist of a crib, an armoire, a nice area rug, possibly a rocking chair, a mobile Cai and I will make, and some pretty wall art. I am also planning on using some pretty fabric curtains to create more separation between the two adjoining spaces.

Now all I need to decide on is a color palette!

Do I stick with pastels and create a simple, calm space?

Keep it neutral with a lot of texture for depth?

Mostly neutral with pops of color?

Or all out bright, bold, beautiful and girly?

Oh decisions, decisions, decisions!

I'm sure that between now and June I will change my mind at least a dozen times!

The biggest choice I have to make is the feeling I want the room to give. Either calming and serene or fun and cheerful!

I guess I have some more things to figure out over the next few weeks!

What are your thoughts?

Have a great weekend!

  1. I'm boring and scared of color, so I lean towards the neutral or the pastel rooms. They are definitely calming, yet still a bit girly and probably won't clash with your master.

    Then again, just how fun are the bright and bold rooms?

    1. I'm leaning towards the neutral with pops of color! That way if I get tired of the color I can change it easily! I'm thinking grays and purples! =)
